Shortsea XML
Shortsea XML is a new message standard designed to streamline the administration processes within a shortsea based logistics chain.
The standardised messages – based on XML technology – comprise the core processes of scheduling, booking, operations and status. Implementing these new standards within a supply chain will help to reduce costs, cut administration, streamline process and, ultimately, improve the competitiveness of shortsea transport.

EU Project
Funded by the EU Marco Polo programme, the Shortsea XML project supports a network of shippers, carriers, ports, intermediaries and IT providers who are working together to develop the new standard. Project deliverables will include XML schemas, business requirements specifications and technical manuals.
The official project ended 15th September 2008 but the standards we have developed will remain freely available to download from our website and they will continue to be maintained and updated by SMDG.
The NorStella Foundation - the project's lead partner - has established a user-group where interested participants will provide input to the future direction and content of Shortsea XML.
The Shortsea XML usergroup was established 6th November 2008 in Amsterdam. See the minutes here. We are currently redesigning the website for more functionality for the members and ordinary users.
